A Moment of Reading ...

There was a moment when I feel like reading the whole day and a moment of just looking around. I try to look back at those moments when I do. Somehow it was a different phase of my life, when I start reading and had been hooked to finish it in one setting. The result: tired eyes, headache and neglected chores. Though I am not a voracious reader, I am just a reader. In my room, I have lots of books, have been collecting since I started working in year 2000. Some of the authors and their writings who had touched my heart are the following:

JOHN GRISHAM
1.A Time to Kill
2. The Firm
3. The Pelican Brief
4. The Client
5. The Chamber
6. The Rainmaker
7. The Runaway Jury
8. The Partner
9. The Street Lawyer
10. The Testament
11. The Brethren

OG MANDINO
1. A Better Way To Live
2. The Choice
3. The Christ Commission
4. The Gift of Acabar
5. The Greatest Miracle in the World
6. The Greatest Salesman in the World
7. The Greatest Secret in the World
8. The Greatest Success in the World
9. the Return of the Ragpicker

Relativity

(From the book "The Storyteller's Minute by Frank Mihalic)
I am married to a widow who has a grown up daughter.
My father visited us often, fell in love with the daughter and married her. And so my father became my son-in-law and my step-daughter became my mother, since she is the wife of my father.
My wife had a son. He became my father's son- in-law and my uncle, because he was the brother of my step-mother.
My father's wife, that is: my step-daughter, had a son who naturally was my brother and at the same time my grandson, since he was the son of my daughter; and my wife became my grandmother, since she was my mother's mother.
I was at the same time the husband of my wife and her grandson, and since the husband of my grandmother is my grandfather, I am my own grandfather.

THE SHEPHERD BOY

Aesop
A folktale from Greece
Retold by Joseph Jacobs

There was once a young shepherd boy who tended his sheep at the foot of a mountain near a dark forest. It was rather lonely for him all days, so he thought upon a plan by which he could get a little company and some excitement. He rushed down toward the village calling out, "Wolf, wolf," and the villagers came out to meet him, and some of them stopped with him for a considerable time. this pleased the boy so much that a few days afterwards he tried the same trick, and again the villagers came to his help. But shortly after this a wolf actually did come out from the forest, and began to worry the sheep, and the boy of course cried out, "wolf, wolf", still louder than before. But this time the villagers who had been fooled twice before, thought the boy was again deceiving him, and nobody stirred to come to his help. So the wolf made a good meal off the boys flock, and when the boy complained, the wise men of the village said:

" A liar will not be believed, even when he speaks the truth."

  • A fable is a kind of folk tale told to teach a moral lesson. They are fun to read, and they also offer common sense about living our daily lives and making wise decisions.
