BULLYING

In my own classroom, bullying is one of my problem. No matter how I tried to discipline my pupils, there will be one, two or three pupils who would resort to fighting others for simple reasons: they were teased or called by fun names. Usually the one that gets into trouble are the ones who are inattentive of the lessons. Those who care so much with others and doesn’t want to be cared also. People are hard to understand when they are hard-headed, when they believe that they have to get even to those who hurt them verbally or physically.

This situation is also true to us adults. When we are stabbed at the back we either fight back or resort to be silent and plan of fighting back in the future. We have more choices compare to our pupils because at our age we should be in control to our emotions and decide to what could be good for us. Someday we will meet the same face again, working with the same fellows, but if reacting would give others the lesson, then why not let  them experience the benefit of your anger also.

As for the children, I believe that they are manageable, that their minds can be twisted to what is right, they just need proper guidance, appreciation and encouragement. Household situations can hold them back or can make them like steel. They become dominant in their own way, they do not want to be overpowered by others. They have to fight back believing that it is a self – defense or else they will be over-shadowed by peers.

As adults or as teachers, what are we suppose to do? Scold them? Bully them also? They just need to be understood, work on their emotions. They want to be cared, feel loved and accepted. We all want acceptance in this world. We know that once we are accepted, we can move with ease. With their young minds, they have to be guided, nurtured and developed.

For my pupils this year, I talked to them, have fun moments with them, so they will be open to situations wherein they will feel loved. That some people can be trusted and some are really not  and those are the moment where they have to guard themselves , keep their strength and be responsible enough with their own actions.

WATCH

We Advocate Time Consciousness and Honesty

This is the latest program being implemented by Deped to all its employee. It’s good that we are being reminded every now and then about time. Time is indeed, too short to spend in worthless activity. If one is conscious why we are working as government employee, we know that we are employed, we know that our time are being paid. Teachers and others working in the government should practice punctuality. Good enough for those who abide and I don’t know how I would I call those who came with good alibis. Perhaps it’s just a matter of technique, or a matter of being wise, the less exposed to work, the less stressful it might be.
If a certain  work causes one to be stressful , then one might as well relieve himself. That’s the best solution. Individual differences do matter, but it does not mean that you will do what makes you feel good. Because hard work is working hard despite the challenge.
Congratulations to those who are stressed right now, enjoying the fruit of their labor.
WATCH yourself, your health, your environment and your family just don’t watch those lonesome fellows out there who do not want to be stressed, huh!

Do Not Be Ashamed of What You Don't Have

Today is our CASISTEA Assembly held at the University of Nueva Caceres Gym. The Guest Speaker is Dr.Orfelina Tuy, Director IV of Region V. It was participated by all Elementary Teachers of the Division of Camarines Sur.
I remember her way back in 2011, March 19 because she signed my appointment as Teacher I, being the Assistant Superintendent of the Division of Camarines Sur during that time. Still single and looks charming today .I was encouraged to listen to her discussing about goal assessment. She emphasized that no teacher should  ever retire as teacher 1, never wait for 20 years to become teacher 2, that each teacher should have a career plan.Do not be contented of what you are now, work on your goal. She also tackles financial budgeting, that teachers have only 3, 000 as take home pay, so we end up thinking of where to find another lending institution. The statement is too good to be true!
One thing more that I like about what she said is that  we should not be ashamed of what we don't have. Instead of loaning a scooter or single motor for 3 years (P3, 000 monthly) to be your service, why don't we just ride in a tricycle, even she, rides in a tricycle. We should control ourselves over matters that don't really matter. Teachers should learn how to be thrifty. We should save even 5 pesos each day. It's better than not saving at all.
Last thing , as an individual we should not lose our faith, that there is a powerful spirit that controls us all. Never rely in our strength. Dream high. All has a place on Earth.

EARTHQUAKE DRILL

Our School children preparing themselves for feeding after the drill.
The Bureau of Fire Protection sponsored and spearheaded the Earthquake drill in our School on March 07,2012. It was participated by all grade level and kinder pupils, together with their parents and faculties of our school. It started with the Orientation by room, then, opening program and actual activity drill outside the school ground.
Actual drill
The Fire Marshall giving instructions to the children.
The weather took part  when we are about to start the activity outside, a five minute rain shower suspended the activity. We have waited for a few moments, we knew that life sometimes has an unexpected moments.
Inside the classroom. The pupils hiding under their chair upon hearing the buzzer. Assuming that they are being alarmed if ever an earthquake occur .

National Achievement Test 2012 II

The National Achievement Test for Grade VI is fast approaching. We make regular reviews in preparation for the yearly conduct of test.Despite the rigorous review we have conducted I still got worried about the results I keep on getting. I monitored everyday the percentage level for each subject to ensure that my pupils are improving.
                                    A           B            C            D            E
        FILIPINO           65%       60%        58%       54%       55%
        ENGLISH           54%       51%       53%       52%        53%
        MATH                 52%       66%       68%       67%        64%
        SCIENCE           53%       65%       61%       60%        58%
        HEKASI             63%        52%       57%       58%       59%

The result is quiet alarming on my part. But then I should not lose hope. I keep on working everyday
to help them improve more.I knew I have done to make things effective for them. We just have to be prayerful, hopeful and joyful each day. I accept the challenges coming ahead. Nothing is useless.
I got this quotation from here. "Don't be afraid to fail. Don't waste energy trying to cover up failure. Learn from your failures and go on to the next challenge. It's Ok to fail. If you're not failing. You're not growing."
I do recommend that NAT should be conducted in all grade level next year, so that as they reach Grade Six, they are exposed to this kind of test and at the same time exposed and trained to a rigid review by their adviser. This is one way of seeing and observing how they improved well. There should be no year gap for the conduct of test.

National Achievement Test 2012- I

The conduct of National Achievement Test for Grade 3 is on March 2, 2012 and for Grade 6 on March 8, 2012.I am just confused what I read here about Grades 3 and 4 who shall be taking the test on the date stated above.
For Grades 3,English, Math , Science and Filipino will be tested, for Grade VI, English, Math, Science, Filipino and Hekasi. The questions are highly constructed. It will really test the pupil's knowledge regarding the topics for each subject. In my 6th Grader class, I have only 39 pupils, with 18 male and 21 female, I could conclude that they belong to an average section.Only 25% of the Class can comprehend well, but not very well. The rest needs more remediation everyday. The sad fact is that I cannot give them the proper treatment after diagnosing their weaknesses because of time constraint. I am handling all 8 subjects in one day and I could say that I cannot have it all!!. I do propose that Grade six should also be given priority . The number of teachers should be consider.Despite it all I continue praying and hoping that we can make it. Miracles do happen everyday. We just have to study harder for the next few weeks. I hope there will be no more interruptions.
I do recommend that the National Achievement Test shall be given to all Grade Level, not only for Grade 3 and 6 pupils, for how will they able to test the effectivity of teaching - learning experiences of other grade level if they only focus on the two grades. Not all teachers are diligent and honest. Some may just be pretending to be around, but when the administrator is not around, will they retain themselves inside the classroom with their pupils? I just wish that they will.
A matter of observation, can lead to an opinion and could arrive at a right conclusion.God bless us and all the teachers who work for the common good, not for the common loan.

IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, WILL YOU MARRY THE SAME PERSON?

October 26- 28 was set for our School INSET( In-Service Seminar for Teachers). I discussed about Conditional Type of Sentences. It has a form of : (Conditional or "if" clause;if + present tense)and ( Main Clause or result clause future tense) The following were motivational questions answerable by Yes or No:
        1. If you see a large insect in the house do you scream?
        2. If you have friends over for dinner do you cook most of the food or order from a restaurant?
        3. If you have a lot of work, do you do it right away or leave most of it the next day?
        4. Do you keep a secret if a friend ask you to?
        5. Do you laugh if you make silly mistake?
That was easy to answer. Then I added:
If you have a choice, will you marry the same person?
There was a few seconds of silence. I can see from their eyes that they are groping for answers, assessing themselves emotionally. Then somebody at the back had a boisterous laugh, then everyone follows.
Well, we all have the choice. I don't want to judge anyone from among the group because I don't know them personally, unless they are trying to pretend that their marital status is okay.Anyway, its just a question. Its the only way to free ourselves of the present situation. If ever something is wrong or something is missing in our lives after all these years for sure we know how to run over them.
If I am to answer that question, I would say a big "YES". I asked God to marry a man who knows how to pray, who has faith in God, who prioritize others than himself. A person who will be of influence on me in my spiritual aspect. Richness and good looking face(huh) is not my preference. I cannot live with the face alone. What is important is the person we have chosen can bring out the best in us!! ................that's it and that's life!
