SHOCKTOBER 2011

Yesterday was another exciting day for us as we participated and witnessed the yearly Halloween Costume Competition sponsored by BIGGS Diner. Despite the short preparation, we still competed and had prepared 2 costumes for children category. We were amazed that more and more people become interested with this yearly activity  and the more they become more creative and resourceful. Materials were not limited only to recyclable one, they can buy something new and expensive, what is being judged is the most unique and scariest costume plus the person's performance on stage. We actually had lost the competition this year but we learn from it, we got new ideas through this experience.

This is our first entry.

 Our second entry.

This one got the First Prize.

I like this one. The child's face should have been painted.

Third place.

IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE, WILL YOU MARRY THE SAME PERSON?

October 26- 28 was set for our School INSET( In-Service Seminar for Teachers). I discussed about Conditional Type of Sentences. It has a form of : (Conditional or "if" clause;if + present tense)and ( Main Clause or result clause future tense) The following were motivational questions answerable by Yes or No:
        1. If you see a large insect in the house do you scream?
        2. If you have friends over for dinner do you cook most of the food or order from a restaurant?
        3. If you have a lot of work, do you do it right away or leave most of it the next day?
        4. Do you keep a secret if a friend ask you to?
        5. Do you laugh if you make silly mistake?
That was easy to answer. Then I added:
If you have a choice, will you marry the same person?
There was a few seconds of silence. I can see from their eyes that they are groping for answers, assessing themselves emotionally. Then somebody at the back had a boisterous laugh, then everyone follows.
Well, we all have the choice. I don't want to judge anyone from among the group because I don't know them personally, unless they are trying to pretend that their marital status is okay.Anyway, its just a question. Its the only way to free ourselves of the present situation. If ever something is wrong or something is missing in our lives after all these years for sure we know how to run over them.
If I am to answer that question, I would say a big "YES". I asked God to marry a man who knows how to pray, who has faith in God, who prioritize others than himself. A person who will be of influence on me in my spiritual aspect. Richness and good looking face(huh) is not my preference. I cannot live with the face alone. What is important is the person we have chosen can bring out the best in us!! ................that's it and that's life!

THE GREAT COMMANDMENT

We had attended  mass yesterday at 6pm and  here's the Good News:
      Matthew (22.34-40)
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they came together, and one of them, a teacher of the law, tried to trap him with a question" Teacher, " he asked, " which is the greatest commandment in the law?"
Jesus answered, " Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like this: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments."

When a person obeys the commandment of God, for sure we love Him. We do not want to fall short of his expectations. We tried so much not to disappoint Him. When we sacrifice out time, our schedule, our work for the sake of attending Mass, we prioritize Him. We all have time in this world, let those moments , precious moments be given to the Holy One.
When you possess that love, then its easy to show love to others too. We live not only for ourselves but for those around us, even for those who cannot repay  us. As the time transverse, what makes us not fulfill this second commandments is because people had change in so many ways,we can never put our trust to anyone, even to our neighbors!! We are all governed by law , the more they are being imposed , the more people become revengeful, they feel that they are being robbed by their freedom. How can we bring back time, how can we give trust? Where is love afterall?
Despite all of these, I knew somewhere that there are few who are worth trusting, who still possess the value of kindness. Modern technology has modernized the way people think. Instead of going to someone's house to apologize, we just text. Have we missed something? Maybe.
No matter how we change ourselves physically or socially, God would still value those who value Him, those who value love....God is LOVE, and we all know that!
We attended mass  and at the same time bought some books today. Here's what I got:

1. An Unfinished  Marriage by Joan Anderson
    P 20.00

2.  Love's Harvest by Peggy J. Herring
   P 20.00

3. Another lousy day In Paradise by John Gierach
   P 20.00

4. Tenney's Landing by Catherine Tudish
    P 10.00

5. Somewhere South of Here by William Kowalski
   P 10.00

6. Sharing Good Times by Jimmy Carter
   P 10. 00

It doesn't matter to me who the authors are, I know that books have undergone reviews. As long as there are texts, I consider them as precious. I'm not so good in the language, but I do try to appreciate every words written on every stories I read. What is important to me is that I have something new today. I'm excited as ever. Whew! I hope that I could finish all of them.

LIVING ROSARY

Pupils had formed a rosary. Each color represents the five mysteries of the rosary.

They were able to hurdle the heat of the sun for 40 minutes.

October 19 was the day set for our Living Rosary as part of our School's Celebration for  the Month of Rosary. It has been participated by Grades I- VI pupils of Bal- Flor Elementary School. The image has been carved by my husband's friend, way back then.

Got these flowers from San Fernando District, San Fernando, Camarines Sur, the host district for our 2nd Congressional Meet 2011. At least there are still flowers around. They really give me pleasure every now and then.

WHITE AMPALAYA

Ampalaya is a very common vegetable in our place. It grows everywhere. It grows even on pots! Most children prefer other vegetables than ampalaya because of its bitterness. It is very nutritious and  affordable to buy. To know more about this vegetable , you can read it here.
What I found  today is this white ampalaya that we thought was white patola! It can grow very long and can sometimes touch the ground according to the resident there. Its leaves are bigger and has the same shape with the common ampalaya here.I'm not just sure if it is highly nutritious just like the one we had. Some says that it came from Northern Luzon provinces . Wherever they came from I just hope that they become abundant in our place and be included in our everyday diet.
