In my own classroom, bullying is one
of my problem. No matter how I tried to discipline my pupils, there will be
one, two or three pupils who would resort to fighting others for simple
reasons: they were teased or called by fun names. Usually the one that gets
into trouble are the ones who are inattentive of the lessons. Those who care so
much with others and doesn’t want to be cared also. People are hard to
understand when they are hard-headed, when they believe that they have to get
even to those who hurt them verbally or physically.
This situation is also true to us adults. When
we are stabbed at the back we either fight back or resort to be silent and plan
of fighting back in the future. We have more choices compare to our pupils
because at our age we should be in control to our emotions and decide to what
could be good for us. Someday we will meet the same face again, working with
the same fellows, but if reacting would give others the lesson, then why not
let them experience the benefit of your
anger also.
As for the children, I believe that
they are manageable, that their minds can be twisted to what is right, they
just need proper guidance, appreciation and encouragement. Household situations
can hold them back or can make them like steel. They become dominant in their own
way, they do not want to be overpowered by others. They have to fight back
believing that it is a self – defense or else they will be over-shadowed by
peers.
As adults or as teachers, what are we
suppose to do? Scold them? Bully them also? They just need to be understood,
work on their emotions. They want to be cared, feel loved and accepted. We all
want acceptance in this world. We know that once we are accepted, we can move
with ease. With their young minds, they have to be guided, nurtured and
developed.
For my pupils this year, I talked to
them, have fun moments with them, so they will be open to situations wherein
they will feel loved. That some people can be trusted and some are really not and those are the moment where they have to
guard themselves , keep their strength and be responsible enough with their own
actions.
